An Open Water course is the initial stage in obtaining a diving license. This comprehensive course provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful diver. It comprises one dive from the beach and four additional dives from the boat inside the marine reserve. The water temperature is approximately 82.4°F, with excellent visibility, making it one of the most convenient places globally for learning, practicing, and obtaining a diving license.
Cozumel is home to various species, including three types of sea turtles, stingrays, spotted eagle rays, moray eels, giant lobsters, and a wide range of colorful fish. No previous diving experience is necessary to begin the course, and it offers an opportunity to explore the magnificent underwater world.
On day one of the course, you will receive the PDF course guide and commence studying before arriving on the island. You will be able to pass knowledge reviews and start the first lesson. The instructor will teach you about pressure changes, buoyancy, the use and control of equipment, and dive plans. On the same day, you will take your first dive from the beach, where you will practice basic skills in shallow water in the beautiful Tikila beach.
On day two, the course continues with knowledge reviews, gear preparation, and a briefing with your PADI certified instructor on open water skills and routines. Afterward, you will board a boat for two dives in the open water within the Cozumel Marine Reserve, reaching a depth of 40 feet (12 meters) while demonstrating the skills taught during the course.
On day three, you will go out on the boat again to the most incredible reefs in Cozumel for the last two dives. This time, you will reach a maximum depth of 60 feet (18 meters), where you will learn, understand, and successfully perform all the exercises and skills that must be mastered. Finally, you will review the last knowledge reviews and the remaining skills, followed by the final exam.
By the end of the course, you will be a certified PADI Open Water Diver, able to dive up to 60 feet (18 meters) deep.
